First Signs of Spring

Slowly, slowly, the snow is melting away! Spring is finally on the way. We have our staff hired for the summer (well, pretty much), we have our spring ranch projects rolling (kind-of), and the cows will start calving any day now (maybe).
Soon, flowers will start just popping up all over the place. Look at these beautiful tulips that sprang up just right outside my front door.
I love orange flowers.

How beautiful.
Okay, maybe, just maybe. . .
I am getting a little ahead of myself here.

Cowboy Take Me Away

My "Indian" Cowboy is finally home. He enjoyed his fair share of tours, Indian food, local hosts and entertainment on the other side of the world. He has pictures of elephants, trains, boats, towns, cities, tea and many, many, faces.

As the saying goes: absence make the heart grow fonder. Justin's month-long excursion to a different world has me thinking how lucky I am to have him and how this whole living on a ranch with a cowboy thing is just one big dream come true.

In fact, just this summer a high school classmate and I were laughing about how, in our senior yearbook, she willed me "a cowboy, a ranch, and a dog".

Justin is pretty much exactly what the sappy high school version of myself dreamed of as my prince charming. A handsome cowboy, a loving father, a gentle man that loves the land.

So, in a teenaged angst sort of moment, I searched for some lyrics that my high-school self and her high-school friends used to croon over. I am laughing out loud right now thinking about what losers we were. But here it is--"Cowboy Take Me Away" by the Dixie Chicks, set to pictures from my ranch pix files.

Warning: the following is embarrassingly cheezy. Please laugh. Or cry. Or both.

I said "I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it with my hands
I wanna grow something
wild and unruly
I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of blue bonnets
In a blanket made of stars
Oh, it sounds good to me.
I say "Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can
Into the wild blue"
Set me free, oh I pray
Closer to heaven above
and closer to you
I wanna walk and not run
I wanna skip and not fall
I wanna look at the horizon
and not see a building standing tall
I wanna be the only one
for miles and miles
except for maybe you
and your simple smile

Oh Cowboy, Take me away!
